Star Wars Trilogy on DVD

Star Wars Trilogy on DVD Sept. 21 has Lots o' Changes. Obi Swan over at AICN wrote a great and very detailed article outlining all of the changes inflicted upon the new new new version of the original Star Wars Trilogy as it is being released next Tuesday, September 21st, on DVD. They cleaned up all the picture and sound quality and improved the digital transfer, but George Lucas evidently can't resist tinkering with the films every time he sees them - by my count, this is the fourth version of each (original, original with new sound, the special editions that were released theatrically back in 1997, and this version). I bought the first 3 on VHS and I guess I'll be buying this (and any subsequent versions - I am a sucker) on DVD. Unfortunately, some of the changes are important and one change I particularly despise, Han Firing First, is still in there. Click over to read the whole article. Some of the major changes and alterations:

Star Wars

  • Better, more detailed Jabba to replace the 1997 version,
  • Dialogue additions and deletions
  • Better Trashmonster,
  • Lightsaber changes,
  • More Landspeeder stuff
  • Empire

  • Hoth is now a desert planet (just kidding)
  • Emperor is now Ian McDiarmid from the prequels
  • Removal of Luke's girlish scream
  • Boba Fett now voiced by Temuera Morrison as in the prequels
  • Jedi

  • Replaced old Anakin Skywalker dude with fuzzy new picture of Hayden Christensen
  • They added some Naboo to the final celebration scene
  • Added details to the final scene on Coruscant
